The Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), Chennai, under the aegis Ministry of AYUSH, organized a pre-summit press meet today in Chennai at CCRS Head Quarters ahead of the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, scheduled from 17th to 19th December 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Prof. Dr. N.J. Muthukumar, Director General of CCRS, addressed the media and highlighted India’s readiness to showcase its traditional medicine strengths across all Ayush systems — Siddha, Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy at this global platform. He further emphasized that the Summit’s agenda strongly aligns with India’s advancements in evidence-based research, traditional knowledge preservation, innovation, quality assurance and digital transformation.
Referring to the provisional agenda, Dr. Muthukumar said that the Summit will open with the plenary “Restoring Balance: The Science and Practice of Health and Well-being”, followed by extensive discussions on traditional medical knowledge systems, equitable access, planetary health and governance. The event will focus on research and innovation with sessions such as “Translating the TM Research Roadmap into Global Action,” “Research Methodologies and Applications,” “The Science of Well-being,” and “From Innovation to Investment – Building the TM Pipeline for Scale and Equity.” It will highlight standards, data, ancestral knowledge preservation and responsible AI, with parallel tracks on information systems, ethics in digitalization and innovation-driven accountability.
More so, Dr. Muthukumar added that India’s AYUSH sector is determined to contribute substantively across all these themes, presenting developments in clinical research, pharmacopoeial works, regulatory frameworks, practitioner capacity building and integrative healthcare models. He also highlighted that the Traditional Medicine Discovery Experience, running through all three days, will showcase India’s rich healing traditions in an immersive format.
He concluded that the Summit offers a great and major opportunity for India to reinforce its global leadership in traditional medicine.
