In a major step towards sustainable industrial practices, the CSIR–Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI), Bhavnagar, has transferred its innovative salt-separation and purification technology know how to Ranipet Tannery Effluent Treatment Co. Ltd. (RANITEC), Tamil Nadu, under a tripartite agreement with the All India Skin and Hide Tanners and Merchants Association (AISHTMA).
This breakthrough technology enables the recovery and purification of salts, such as sodium chloride and sodium sulphate from various unit processes of tannery operations including stored salts. This advancement not only promotes resource reuse but also significantly reduces environmental impact, supporting the tannery sector’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable operations.

The technology transfer ceremony was attended by CSIR-CSMCRI Director Dr. Kannan Srinivasan, Chief Scientist Dr. Arvind Kumar, and Dr. Kamalesh Prasad, Head of Business Development. Distinguished guests included Dr. Palanisamy Thanikaivelan, Director of CSIR-CLRI, and Dr. K J Sreeram, former Director of CSIR-CLRI. The event was held at the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) office in Chennai, in the presence of TNPCB Chairperson Ms. Jayanthi Murali on December 04, 2025.

RANITEC was represented by Mr. R. Ramesh Prasad, Chairman of CEMCOT, while AISHTMA President Mr. M. Rafeeque Ahmed also participated. Senior officials from multiple agencies joined the programme, underscoring the importance of this collaboration.
