ASSISTANCE TO HANDLOOM WEAVERS UNDER NHDP

Ministry of Textiles through Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms) is implementing National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) across the country. Approx.22,72,085 weavers including Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been given assistance under NHDP during the last five years.

The Cluster Development Programme (CDP), a component of NHDP is under implementation since 2015-16 for providing need based financial support through various interventions like upgraded looms & accessories, construction of worksheds, solar lighting units, product & design development, etc., across the country. 356 CDPs have been financially assisted across the country during the last five years.

Under the Handloom Marketing Assistance (HMA), a component of NHDP, exhibitions such as National Handloom Expo-“Gandhi Bunkar Mela”, State Handloom Expo- “Hathkargha” & District Handloom Expo- “Tana-Bana” are organized across the country including participation in various Crafts Melas & Dilli Haat programme etc. to provide the marketing platforms to the handloom agencies viz. Co-operative Societies, Producer Companies, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liabilities Groups (JLGs), Federations, Corporations, Apex Societies etc. to sell their products directly to the customers, In addition, an e-commerce portal (https://www.indiahandmade.com) has already been launched to support the handloom sector for online marketing of handloom products. Approx.16,11,667 weavers have been supported under HMA during the last five years.

Ministry of Textiles through Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms) has conducted forth All India Handloom Census 2019-20. As per the census, there are 35,22,512 handloom workers and allied workers across the country.
