The Union Minister of State Coal and Mines, Government of India, Shri Satish Dubey, on Thursday inaugurated the newly established XRF Laboratory at the Nagpur based Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research, Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Nagpur.

Following the inauguration, MoS Shri Dubey toured various laboratories, interacted with scientists, and showed keen interest in the Centre’s technological advancements and industry-focused solutions.

He also reviewed JNARDDC’s ongoing programmes after a concise presentation on the Centre’s research and development initiatives. He expressed appreciation for the organisation’s efforts in advancing innovative technologies, strengthening recycling capabilities, and undertaking critical minerals research. He encouraged the scientific team to continue contributing to a robust, self-reliant and sustainable mineral sector, aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He commended JNARDDC’s contributions to the nation’s mineral and aluminium ecosystem and urged the team to scale new heights in innovation and excellence.

During the visit, Shri Dubey also planted a sapling under the national initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” symbolising the Centre’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability.

About the XRF Laboratory

The XRF Laboratory is a major addition that significantly enhances JNARDDC’s analytical and testing capabilities. Equipped with Pro-Trace software and certified reference standards, the newly installed Panalytical Zetium XRF ensures consistently high-quality, fully traceable analyses across a wide spectrum of geological materials, including rocks, soils, sediments, ores, minerals, and mineral sands. This advanced wavelength-dispersive system enables precise quantification of major, minor, and trace elements in both solid and powdered samples.

The laboratory will cater to key stakeholders such as the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), and several other public and private agencies. It is particularly valuable for critical mineral assessments, offering enhanced capability for analysing fluorine, cobalt, rare earth elements, and other strategic or high-value minerals essential for India’s growing mineral sector.
