Chennai Customs seizes contraband worth 1.01 crores at Chennai Anna International Airport

Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Chennai Customs, on specific Intelligence, intercepted an Indian female passenger, who had arrived from Bangkok to Chennai via Colombo on Sri Lankan Airlines Flight No. UL127 at Chennai International Airport on 15.11.2025. Examination of her checked-in baggage led to the recovery of 2.910 KGs of Ganja/ Marijuana concealed in 01 no. of air-tight transparent package kept inside the outdoor unit of Air Conditioner and 03 nos. of air-tight black colour taped package kept inside the indoor unit of Air Conditioner. The seized goods are valued at Rs 1.01 crores in illicit market. The contraband was seized and the passenger was remanded to judicial custody under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigation is under progress.
The Indian Customs at Chennai Airport continues to maintain heightened vigilance against suspect passengers and ingenious methods adopted to effectively prevent smuggling activities.
