On the occasion of Chhattisgarh State Foundation Day, a Hands-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training programme was organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and Research Centre (JLNHRC), Sector-9, Bhilai, under the Department of Medical and Health Services of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP). The initiative sought to raise public awareness on responding to sudden cardiac arrest emergencies and to equip citizens with essential, life-saving CPR techniques.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vinita Dwivedi, Chief Medical Officer In-Charge (Medical and Health Services), with support from Dr. Kaushalendra Thakur and Dr. Uday Kumar, Chief Medical Officers (Medical and Health Services).

During the session, participants were given a live demonstration of the Hands-Only CPR technique and were provided with hands-on training through practical exercises. Trainers highlighted that during cardiac arrest, early recognition, immediate calling for assistance and continuous chest compressions significantly increase the chances of survival before professional medical help arrives.

The event, held in the Outpatient Department (OPD) premises, witnessed active participation from citizens who took a pledge to “save lives” by learning this crucial emergency response technique. Participants gained practical knowledge of the importance, procedure, and application of CPR in real-life medical emergencies.
Teams from the Department of Anaesthesia and the Quality Management Department played a key role in the successful conduct of the event. In view of its positive response and community relevance, it was decided to organise monthly Hands-Only CPR training sessions at JLNHRC to ensure that a larger section of society benefits from this life-saving skill.
The initiative underscores Bhilai Steel Plant’s sustained commitment to community health and preventive care through awareness and skill-based training.
