BIS Celebrates World Standards Day with ‘Manak Mahotsav’ in Mumbai

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, celebrated World Standards Day with the theme “A Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals” at Bharat Ratnam – Mega CFC, SEEPZ, Andheri (East), Mumbai.

The event, titled Manak Mahotsav, paid tribute to thousands of experts and organizations that contribute to the development of national and international standards that ensure safety, quality, and sustainability in everyday life.

Prof. U. Kamachi Mudali, Vice Chancellor, Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Mudali emphasized the vital role of standards in the manufacturing of specialized materials and the harmonization of products across industries. He commended BIS for its efforts in aligning Indian standards with international benchmarks through collaborations with organizations like the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

He also highlighted the importance of partnerships, noting that Sustainable Development Goal 17 is the key enabler for achieving all other SDGs and the 169 associated targets.

Shri V. Gopinath, Deputy Director General (Western Region), delivered the welcome address and outlined the wide range of initiatives undertaken by BIS in promoting quality and standardization. Shri Pinaki Gupta, Scientist-E & Head, BIS Mumbai Branch Office, presented the official World Standards Day message.

During the event, All India First Licensees were felicitated, along with stakeholders such as licensees, assaying and hallmarking centers, media partners, BIS Standards Club mentors, NGOs, and resource persons for their active contribution toward building a Quality Ecosystem in the country.

During the celebrations, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Mumbai was also honoured with a special recognition from BIS Mumbai on the occasion of World Standards Day 2025. The recognition was received by Ms. Sonal Tupe, Media & Communication Officer, PIB Mumbai, during the celebrations held in Mumbai.

This acknowledgement highlights PIB’s dedicated efforts and continued partnership with BIS in protecting consumer rights, fostering a culture of quality, and strengthening the nation’s quality ecosystem through proactive dissemination of information.

As part of the World Standards Day celebrations, BIS also organized several outreach activities — including a Quality Walk, Manak Carnival, and Stakeholders’ Meet — at St. John Technical Education Campus, Palghar, on 10 October 2025, and another Stakeholders’ Meet in Nashik on 27 September 2025, which saw participation from over 200 industries.

   

The celebrations concluded with the message - “Manak Aani Maharashtra – Mhanje Vikshit Rashtra” (Standards and Maharashtra – Together Towards a Developed Nation)
