Nagpur, 14 October 2025

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Nagpur Branch Office celebrated ‘World Standards Day 2025’ with a special program organized on the theme “Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.”

Delivering the keynote address as Chief Guest, Prof. Premlal Patel, Director, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, emphasized that cross-sectoral collaborations are vital to achieving both the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

“Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals were set for the betterment of humanity. However, both natural and human-made challenges continue to hinder progress. Collaboration among educational institutions, industries, citizens, civil society organizations, and the Bureau of Indian Standards is essential for overcoming these challenges,” Prof. Patel stated.

Highlighting the role of standards in sustainable growth, he noted that international standards form the foundation for achieving SDG targets and strengthening global partnerships. Standards, he said, build trust, ensure fairness, and align diverse stakeholders towards shared objectives.

Prof. Patel identified four critical sectors—Climate Action, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Industrial Practices, and Digital Transformation—as key areas where effective standardization and collaboration can accelerate India’s progress toward sustainable development and a self-reliant future.

Earlier, Shri Hemant Ade, Director, BIS Nagpur Branch, delivered the opening remarks and introduced the theme. He highlighted BIS’s continuing efforts in promoting quality, safety, and sustainability through the adoption and implementation of standards across industries and institutions.

The event also featured technical sessions led by domain experts who discussed the integration of standards into various sectors, fostering innovation, environmental responsibility, and inclusive growth.

Adopted by the United Nations in 2015, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals serve as a global framework for achieving a better and more sustainable future.
