SAIL–Bhilai Steel Plant’s Telecommunication Department Concludes “Safety Promotion Week”, Reinforces Culture of Workplace Safety

The Telecommunication Department of Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Bhilai Steel Plant concluded its observance of “Safety Promotion Week” with vigour, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a robust safety culture across the workplace. The week-long initiative featured a series of awareness programmes, training workshops, and competitions aimed at enhancing employee participation in safety practices.

The observance opened with the unfurling of the safety flag and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. On the occasion, Chief General Manager of the Safety Engineering Department, Shri D. Satpathy, presided as Chief Guest, while General Manager of the Telecommunication Department, Shri Prakash, attended as Guest of Honour. Employees were administered the safety pledge by Senior Manager and Departmental Safety Officer, Shri S. Bhattacharya, who also presented the departmental safety report and outlined the week’s programme schedule.

A host of participatory events, including quiz, poster-making, slogan-writing, essay, and poetry competitions, were organised to integrate awareness with creativity. Practical demonstrations of fire-fighting equipment, first-aid training sessions, and workshops addressing lifestyle-related diseases further enriched the campaign. Significantly, all activities were conducted exclusively in Hindi, underscoring the department’s effort to promote the use of the national language in official functions.

The valedictory function was marked by the presence of Chief General Manager (Electrical) Shri T. K. Krishna Kumar as Chief Guest, and General Manager (Safety Engineering) Smt. Y. V. Subhadra as Guest of Honour. At the ceremony, winners of the various competitions were felicitated, while outstanding safety personnel and exemplary contract workers from the Telecommunication Department were recognised for their contributions.
The programmes were organised under the guidance of General Manager (Telecommunication) Shri H. R. Sirmour. The proceedings of the week-long observance were conducted by Assistant General Managers (Telecommunication) Shri Sandeep Yadav and Shri Giriraj Deshmukh.
