The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, JIPMER, organized a Villupattu folk art program to create awareness on the importance of women’s health in strengthening families. The event was conducted under the Prime Minister’s flagship campaign “Swasth Nari, Shashakt Parivar Abhiyaan”, which emphasizes that the well-being of women is central to the health and prosperity of every household.

The Villupattu performance was presented by nurses from the Department of Nursing, who used the traditional art form to communicate vital health messages in an engaging and relatable manner. Following the performance, experts from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology conducted interactive sessions on various aspects of women’s health.
The discussions highlighted the need for regular gynecological consultations, with particular focus on breast and cervical cancer screening, Pap smear testing, HPV vaccination, menstrual hygiene, antenatal care, and post-menopausal health. Emphasis was laid on the fact that periodic check-ups and preventive practices are crucial for early detection, timely treatment, and ensuring overall well-being.
Through the combined efforts of nurses and medical experts, the program succeeded in reinforcing the message that healthy women are the foundation of strong families and empowered communities.
