South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) carried out a large-scale cleanliness drive at the Chhath Ghat of the Arpa River in Bilaspur on today under the nationwide ‘Swachhta Hi Seva – Swachhotsav 2025’ campaign.

The initiative, held under the theme “1 Ghanta – 1 Din – 1 Sath” (one hour, one day, together), marked the fifth consecutive year of SECL’s participation in riverbank cleaning activities. Around 100 volunteers, comprising SECL employees and their families, actively took part in the exercise.

Led by Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan and joined by senior company officials, the team cleared garbage, plastic bottles, and other waste from the ghat premises. Within an hour, the area saw a visible transformation, underscoring the impact of collective civic action.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Duhan said, “South Eastern Coalfields Limited not only contributes to meeting the nation’s energy needs but also places equal emphasis on social obligations. This cleanliness drive demonstrates that when communities come together, meaningful change is possible. Our effort reflects both faith and responsibility towards the Arpa River.”

The volunteers, raising slogans of “Cleanliness is Service,” appealed to citizens to extend their support in building a clean and healthy society.

Beyond restoring the riverbank’s appearance, the campaign sought to foster awareness about environmental protection and strengthen the spirit of civic responsibility among the local community.
