One-Day Workshop on National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme held in Jaipur

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, organized a one-day Orientation cum Training Programme on the National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) on September 15, 2025. The program was held for District Nodal Officers (DNOs) of Rajasthan and Institute Nodal Officers (INOs) from Jaipur District.

The training aimed to ensure the seamless implementation of the NMMSS, a crucial Central Sector scholarship scheme designed to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections. The NMMSS's primary objective is to curb the dropout rate of students after Class VIII and encourage them to continue their studies at the secondary stage.

The NMMSS provides a scholarship of ₹12,000 per annum to selected students from Classes IX to XII who are studying in government, government-aided, and local body schools. The selection of students is based on an examination conducted by the respective State Governments.

The orientation covered key aspects of the NMMSS and other Scholarship Schemes on NSP, including the application process, OTR Generation, how to apply for scholarship Scheme, INO level verification / re-verification, DNO level verification / re-verification, other queries by DNO /INO and the use of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The program emphasized the importance of accurate and timely verification of applications to ensure that scholarships are disbursed efficiently through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The training brought together key stakeholders from various Ministries and Departments essential to the successful implementation of the scheme. These included:

​DBT Mission, Cabinet Secretariat

​National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

​Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment

​Ministry of Labour

​University Grants Commission (UGC)

​Department of Higher Education

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

​National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI)

The participation of these diverse stakeholders highlighted the collaborative effort required to ensure the scholarship reaches the deserving students.

The orientation programme is part of a series of initiatives by the Ministry of Education to strengthen the implementation of its scholarship schemes and leverage technology for a transparent and efficient delivery system.
