The Governor of Tamil Nadu shri R.N. Ravi addressed the 2009, 2023, 2024 batch of Indian Information Service (IIS) officer trainees on 18 September 2025 in Chennai. He urged them to be dynamic, innovative communicators in an era of widespread misinformation. The Governor emphasized that their role in shaping the public's perception of the government is crucial, though often underappreciated.
Highlighting the dangers of false narratives, the Governor warned that misinformation undermines public trust, fuels discontent, and can ultimately lead to anarchy. He stressed that the core challenge for the IIS is the effective dissemination of truth. "Combating misinformation is going to be challenging, and the Information Service has a crucial role to play in this work," he stated.

The Governor advised the trainees to adopt an entrepreneurial spirit rather than a conventional bureaucratic approach. He advocated for a strategy of centralizing core content to ensure the government speaks with "one voice," while empowering field-level officers to tweak messaging based on local context for greater impact.
He reminded the officers that the bureaucracy must serve the government of the day with commitment, not indifference. On a personal note, he spoke on the importance of humility, advising the officers to treat the public and their subordinates with respect and empathy.
In his concluding remarks, the Governor encouraged the trainees to pursue holistic personal growth—physically, intellectually, and emotionally—and to remain curious throughout their service. He extended his best wishes to the officer trainees for a successful and impactful career dedicated to serving the nation.
