Bureau of Indian Standards, Coimbatore Branch Office conducted “Manak Manthan” programme on 28 August 2025 with the support of our Standards Club Partner Institution (Coimbatore Institute of Technology) at their Library Hall, to facilitate stakeholder engagement in Standard formulation for New Indian Standard (IS 19225: 2025) for Public Bus Transport Services- Guidelines.

   

This program witnessed participation from Govt. Depts, Industry, academia, consumer groups, NGOs, and Industry associations in the discussion on the New Indian Standard (IS 19225: 2025) for Public Bus Transport Services- Guidelines.. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 180 stakeholders, who contributed meaningful suggestions and feedback on the standard.

  

Smt. G. Bhavani, Scientist-F / Senior Director and Head of BIS Coimbatore Branch Office, welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries, and attendees. In her address, she highlighted the critical role of this Indian Standard for common consumers who rely on Bus transport for their regular commute. She also reaffirmed BIS’s dedication to developing safe and sustainable Indian Standards that uphold consumer safety.

  

Shri.S Selvan, Managing Director, Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Coimbatore graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural remarks, he commended BIS’s initiative in ensuring consumer safety through development of standards. He further encouraged BIS to undertake more standardization efforts in the coming years, which would significantly benefit both consumer and Govt. Departments. He also lauded the efforts of BIS Coimbatore for proactively including key Govt. stakeholders in this Manak Manthan deliberations.

Dr.Vasantharathna. S, Professor & Head, Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, participated as Guest of Honour and emphasized the pivotal role played by BIS in the development of Indian Standards in the electrical sector. She also emphasised on the importance of BIS in ensuring consumer safety through CRS Scheme.

Shri.Remyth Suresh, Scientist-D / Joint Director, provided an overview of BIS’s key activities and emphasized the organization’s pivotal role in developing standards related to Service Sector in India.

Shri Shivam Soni, Scientist-C, BIS, elaborated on the activities of the Services Sector Department (SSD) and explained the process of standardization being undertaken in the department

Dr.Erram Palli Madhu, Chief Scientist, CRRI, New Delhi , Technical Committee Member of SSD 1 of BIS, who is also one of the key contributor for development of this Standard, delivered detail presentation about this published Standard and addressed all the queries raised by participants.
