The National Space Day (NSpD) commemorates the successful soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission's Vikram Lander and the deployment of the Pragyan Rover on the Moon on 23 August 2023. India's achievement of landing near the Moon's South Pole marks a significant milestone, making us the fourth nation to land on the Moon's surface and the first to reach near the South Pole.

To mark this special occasion, the Department of Space is organizing nationwide celebrations throughout August 2025 to inspire and engage the youth in space science and its applications. The Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) is also celebrating the National Space Day (NSpD) in August 2025, through its campuses in Ahmedabad, Udiapur and Mt. Abu.

As part of the NSpD 2025 celebrations, PRL organised a workshop on August 20, 2025, with the theme "Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities." The day began at 8:30 AM with demonstrations of space science and exploration exhibits. PRL scientists delivered insightful talks on planetary and space exploration, meteorite studies, and a virtual tour of the Mt. Abu Observatory. Each talk was followed by interactive question-and-answer sessions with students. A total of 300 students and their teachers from various schools and colleges participated, enjoyed the interactions and learned about planetary missions and space exploration.

In addition to the workshop, a team of PRL scientists visited schools in Rajasthan (Mt. Abu, Abu Road, Sirohi, and Udaipur) and Gujarat (Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Sihol, Vadodara, Palanpur) to deliver lectures and engage with students on space science research, interacting with approximately 3500 students.
The Udaipur Solar Observatory also hosted a full-day open house on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, inviting students from schools and colleges to learn about the Sun and ongoing solar physics research. A lecture was also given at the Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, as part of the NSpD 2025 celebration, with around 200 students attending it.
These events represent PRL's commitment to inspiring young minds to pursue challenging career paths and contribute to nation-building through their talent.
