As part of a nationwide effort to sensitise citizens about the ill effects of substance abuse, a two-day Drug Awareness Campaign was jointly organised by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) in Guwahati on 15th and 16th August 2025. The initiative sought to mobilise public support for building a “Drug-Free India” and to encourage communities to actively resist the menace of narcotics.
To reach people directly, a series of street plays (Nukkad Natak) were staged at key public locations including Guwahati Railway Station, City Centre Mall, and Assam State Zoo. The plays depicted the devastating impact of drug addiction on families and communities, while also highlighting the role of teachers, youth, and vigilant citizens in steering society away from drugs. Through a blend of humour, emotion, and relatable characters, the performances kept audiences engaged while effectively conveying the serious message: “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.”
The campaign also familiarised people with the MANAS Helpline (1933), encouraging them to report any drug-related incidents or information. Pamphlets carrying awareness messages were distributed to further spread the word. A large number of people gathered at all three venues, showing strong interest and appreciation for the performances.
