SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant Sets Multiple Production and Efficiency Records in July

Posted On: 11 AUG 2025 6:00PM by PIB Raipur

SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) has reinforced its legacy of operational excellence by setting multiple production and efficiency records across key units and techno-parameters during July.

In Total Material Handling, the Ore Handling Plant (OHP) registered an all-time high of 21,18,181 tonnes, surpassing its previous best of 19,86,239 tonnes achieved in July 2024. Slab production at Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2) reached 1,53,743 tonnes, edging past the earlier record of 1,51,360 tonnes set last year.

The Bar & Rod Mill (BRM), which produces a range of products including wire rod in coil, TMT rebar in coil, straight TMT rebar and quality bars, achieved an impressive output of 92,036 tonnes, breaking the previous record of 84,260 tonnes set in July 2024. Direct despatches from the plant stood at 2,79,839 tonnes, improving on the earlier high of 2,43,507 tonnes achieved in July 2023 — a reflection of enhanced coordination between production and despatch systems.

Notable progress was also recorded in techno-parameters. The CDI rate at Blast Furnace-6 improved to 109.20 kg/THM, surpassing the previous best of 106.45 kg/THM set in July 2024. Blast Furnace productivity (1-8) climbed to 1.94 T/M³/day, its highest since July 2022.

In downstream efficiency, labour productivity rose to an exceptional 731.40 T/M/Y, significantly higher than the 639.20 T/M/Y recorded in July 2024, underlining stronger workforce efficiency and overall operational synergy.
