Celebration of the 19th Statistics Day at National Sample Survey Office (NSSO)

The 19th Statistics Day will celebrate on 29th June 2025, commemorating the remarkable contributions of Late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the field of Official Statistics and Economic Planning post-independence. This day will observe annually, recognizes his pioneering efforts in shaping the statistical landscape of India and its role in nation-building. Professor Mahalanobis was instrumental in establishing the framework for economic planning and statistical surveys in India.

Event Overview

The celebration will held at the NSSO Bhawan, Ahmedabad, and will organize by the Field Operations Division (FOD) of the National Statistics Office (NSO). The event will occure  together a range of distinguished officials and experts from the field of statistics, academia, and government sectors to honour the legacy of Professor Mahalanobis and to highlight the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning.

Inauguration and Keynote Address

                Ms. Shraddha Muley, Assistant Director, Regional Office, FOD, will inaugurate a warm welcome to all attendees and emphasized the significance of statistics in driving informed decision-making.

Theme and Presentations

This year, the theme of Statistics Day centre on the "75th Anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS)", one of India’s most significant initiatives in gathering vital statistical data. The NSS has been a key pillar in India's data collection framework, providing insights into various socio-economic indicators, which have been crucial for policy planning and development programs across the country. Additionally, the Interns for 2025-26 will participate in the NSSO internship program also present their research on the theme, demonstrating the engagement of young minds with statistical research and policy formulation. Their contributions are expected to bring fresh perspectives to statistical analysis in the future.
