Defence Research Laboratory (DRL), DRDO, Tezpur continues to extend vital support to the Indian Army in the North-Eastern region by enhancing water quality assessment and amelioration capabilities. As part of this initiative, DRL organized comprehensive training programmes on “Iron Removal Unit (IRU) and  DRDO Water Testing Kit” for Army personnel at the forward locations of  Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh on 11 May and at Tawang on 15 May 2025.

The training focused on the operation and upkeep of two key technologies—Iron Removal Unit (IRU) and DRDO Water Testing Kit. The IRU is engineered to efficiently eliminate excess iron from drinking water, while  Water Testing Kit is a portable, field-friendly solution capable of detecting multiple contaminants such as arsenic, fluoride, iron, and harmful bacteria.

More than 70 Army personnel from 11 forward units from HQ 190 Bde and HQ 40 Bde participated in the sessions conducted by DRL scientists. The hands-on training equipped them with practical skills to monitor and manage water quality in challenging and resource-constrained environments.

This initiative taken by DRL will not only enhance water quality management in remote and high-altitude areas but also significantly contribute to the health, hygiene, and overall well-being of Army personnel deployed in some of the most challenging and resource-limited environments.
