NCB RAJASTHAN FOILS MAJOR GANJA TRAFFICKING BID; SEIZES NEARLY 300 KG CONTRABAND IN METICULOUSLY EXECUTED OPERATION

Posted On: 22 MAY 2025 2:03PM by PIB Jaipur

In a remarkable stride towards realizing the Government of India’s noble vision of a “Drug-Free India,” the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Rajasthan, has achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotic drug trafficking. Demonstrating exemplary dedication, tactical precision, and unwavering commitment. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Rajasthan Zonal Unit, under the dynamic and resolute leadership of Shri Ghanasyam Soni, IRS, Zonal Director, has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to combat the drug menace with precision, diligence, and exemplary coordination.

In a major breakthrough, a joint team comprising vigilant officers from NCB’s Jaipur and Jodhpur units intercepted a significant consignment of Ganja being trafficked through Rajasthan. This meticulously planned operation, executed on the intervening night of 19th and 20th May 2025, was the culmination of sustained intelligence gathering and operational planning by the Tactical Surveillance Unit (TSU), Jodhpur.

Operation Overview:

Acting on credible and actionable intelligence regarding the interstate trafficking of Ganja originating from Odisha, the NCB team mounted a high-alert surveillance operation. A suspicious truck container was strategically intercepted at Sonva Toll Plaza in the Tonk district.

On conducting a thorough and methodical search of the vehicle, the officers discovered a specially fabricated cavity ingeniously concealed within the vehicle body. Inside, they uncovered a staggering 290 packets of Ganja, with a total gross weight of approximately 296.204 kilograms. The seized contraband holds an estimated market value of Rs. 1.48 crores.

The operation was further bolstered by the timely and commendable assistance extended by the Superintendents of Police, Tonk and Sikar districts, whose cooperation was instrumental in the safe and successful execution of this high-risk operation.

The driver and co-driver of the truck, who were acting as carriers, have been detained and subsequently arrested. Additionally, the intended receiver of the narcotic consignment has also been apprehended, marking a critical development in tracing the wider supply chain.

A formal case has been registered, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway. NCB Rajasthan is aggressively pursuing all leads to unearth the broader network involved in this illicit operation and is committed to dismantling the entire trafficking module operating across inter-state lines.

This operation is a testament to the strategic foresight, inter-agency cooperation, and relentless pursuit of criminal elements by NCB Rajasthan. It underscores the Bureau's unyielding resolve to protect society from the scourge of narcotics, in alignment with the Government of India’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.

Various inputs indicate that Rajasthan have remained as major hubs of narcotics which is notoriously popular among drug abusers. A prospective success in busting this drug trafficking network would prove to be a major achievement in combating the menace of drug trafficking in the region. Seizure of Ganja in such a huge quantity can lead to a prosecution under NDPS Act, which entails stringent provisions of rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than ten years but which may extend to twenty years and shall also be liable to fine which shall not be less than one lakh rupees but which may extend to two lakh rupees. NCB through its Jodhpur Zonal Unit appeals to the general public to share valuable information regarding drug trafficking to effectively counter this growing menace and ensure a healthy society.

Zonal Director's Call: "Let the Public Empower NCB!"

Sh Ghanashyam Soni, IRS, Zonal Director – NCB Rajasthan, has urged citizens to actively participate in the mission to eradicate drug abuse from society. He encouraged individuals with information related to narcotic substances to confidentially report it via the MANAS Portal or by calling 1933. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and suitable rewards will be granted for credible leads.

The NCB’s mission extends beyond enforcement. It is committed to educating youth, promoting awareness through outreach programs, and driving collaborative community initiatives alongside law enforcement and civil society organizations to bring about lasting social change.
