National Conference on Transforming Rural Economies through Cooperatives to be held in Chandigarh during 24th-25th April

A National Conference on “Building a Viksit Bharat: Transforming Rural Economies through Cooperation, Farmer Empowerment and Growth” is being held at Regional Institute of Cooperative Management (RICM), Chandigarh, during 24th and 25th April, 2025. The two-day conference aims to explore the pivotal role of cooperatives in fostering sustainable rural development, empowering farmers and transforming rural economies into resilient and thriving ecosystems. The conference brings together academicians, policymakers, cooperative leaders, researchers, practitioners and industry experts, to discuss innovative strategies, share best practices and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Union Minister of State for Cooperation, Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar and Haryana Cooperation Minister, Shri Arvind Kumar Sharma will grace the conference, along with Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, Shri Ashish K. Bhutani and other officers from the Government of India, and from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

The Union Minister of State for Cooperation and the Haryana Cooperation Minister will also launch an online portal “Meri Samiti Mera Patal”, on the inaugural day of the conference.

The conference draws inspiration from the ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 and the launch of the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025 and seeks to utilize global insights to strengthen India’s cooperative movement.

Aligned with India’s vision of becoming a developed country by the year 2047, the conference emphasizes the vital role of cooperatives in rural prosperity. The conference dwells on five main themes:

  • Building a Viksit Bharat: Cooperatives and Sustainable Rural Development
  • Cooperatives as Catalysts for Farmer Empowerment and Sustainable Growth
  • Business and Economic Strategies for Empowering Rural India
  • Strategic Pathways for Farmers’ Prosperity and Rural Business Development
  • Achieving SDGs through Rural Transformation: Business and Policy Perspectives
