In April 1965, the Pakistan Army launched Operation “DESERT HAWK” against Indian border posts in an effort to assert territorial claims over Indian land bordering the then West Pakistan. Four companies of the 2nd Battalion, CRPF, were deployed at the SARDAR and TAK posts in the Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), along the international border with West Pakistan.

 

On 9th April, at about 0330 hours, an Infantry Brigade of the Pakistan Army launched a coordinated attack on the Indian border posts of SARDAR and TAK, held by CRPF companies. The CRPF personnel displayed exemplary courage, fiercely resisting the assault, and successfully repelled the enemy forces. In this valiant action, thirty-four Pakistani soldiers were killed, and four were captured alive by the CRPF. Seven brave CRPF personnel made the ultimate sacrifice during the battle. The determination and heroism of the 2nd Battalion held back a full-fledged Pakistani Infantry Brigade for 12 hours—an extraordinary and historic military achievement, where a small contingent of paramilitary personnel successfully repulsed a major offensive attack.

In this regard, on 9th April 2025, at the 100 Battalion Rapid Action Force Camp, Vastral, Ahmedabad, Shri Sameer Kumar Rao, Commandant (AOD), along with other officers, paid homage to the martyrs at the Shaheed Smarak. On this solemn occasion, a Sainik Sammelan was also held, during which a brief history of Valour Day was shared with the unit personnel. The Veer Naris (brave women) residing in the area of responsibility of the 100 Bn Rapid Action Force were also honoured by Shri Sameer Kumar Rao, Commandant(AOD). To mark their outstanding service, dedication, and exemplary performance Medals and commendation certificates were awarded to unit personnels.
