Mumbai Customs arrests one at airport, seizes illicit drug worth Rs 10 crore

The Custom officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai seized suspected Cocaine/Methaqualone weighing 1.022 Kg having illicit market value of around Rs. 10.22 Crore in a case on Tuesday (February 18, 2025). One person was arrested in connection with this case.

On Sunday (February 16, 2025), one suspected passenger who arrived from Entebbe, Uganda, to Mumbai by Uganda Airlines FLIGHT No UR 430 was intercepted. During questioning regarding the travel details and purpose of visit to Mumbai, the passenger showed some signs of nervousness and admitted about ingestion of some capsules containing white coloured crumbled substance, purported to be NDPS. Then the passenger was taken to Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate with a request to order recovery under the medical supervision. During the next three days, 84 capsules were purged by the passenger and with that, a total net weight of 1.022 kg of white crumbled substance purported to be Cocaine/Methaqualone was recovered with medical assistance. The passenger was arrested under the Provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
