Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, visited the Sports Authority of India’s National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Kandivali, Mumbai, today to review the upgradation plan for the facility. The proposed enhancements include state-of-the-art training infrastructure for various sports disciplines, including indigenous sports like yoga, Kho Kho, and Mallakhamb, along with a large hostel facility for athletes.

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the urgent need for upgrading the NCOE, particularly due to the lack of world-class facilities in Mumbai capable of training athletes to represent India in international competitions. The upgradation plan also features a state-of-the-art High Performance Sports Science center to assist athletes with training, rehabilitation, and recovery, serving as a central hub for elite athletes from across India.

This review follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between SAI and the Maharashtra State Government after 36 years, granting SAI the opportunity to build new infrastructure at the NCOE.
