Department of Post Celebrates 141st Anniversary of 'Postal Life Insurance'; Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav Distributed Policy Bonds

Department of Post has declared 637 villages as “Sampoorna Bima Gram” in the North Gujarat region

Now, Graduates and Diploma Holders from Recognized Universities/Institutions can take Postal Life Insurance – Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav

Department of Post has been serving the country not only with Postal Services like letters and parcels but also in the field of life insurance for a long time.  Postal Life Insurance which was started on 1st February, 1884 is India's oldest Insurance scheme for Government and Semi-Government Employees, and now it is available to Professionals of Private sectors as well as Graduates and Diploma Holders from Recognized Universities/Institutions. On the occasion of the 141st Anniversary of Postal Life Insurance, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region expressed these thoughts during a function held on 1st February, 2025, at the Swaminarayan Temple campus at Hathijan, Ahmedabad. During the event, he distributed Postal Life Insurance Policy Bonds to the Policy holders and wished them a prosperous future.

 

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that Life Insurance is not only an essential need of today’s era but also a secure mode for Savings and Investment. Currently, More than 3.25 lakh Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance Policies are running in North Gujarat region. Department of Post achieves new milestones in the Insurance Sector also. As an Innovative Initiative, all eligible Individuals in 637 villages of North Gujarat Region have been saturated under “Sampoorna Bima Gram” Villages. India Post offers a wide range of Life Insurance Schemes tailored to People’s age and needs, including 'Suraksha' (Whole Life Assurance), 'Santosh' (Endowment Assurance), 'Suvidha', 'Sumangal', 'Yugal Suraksha', and 'Children Policy'.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav also highlighted the adaption of modern technology with Postal Life Insurance services. The introduction of the e-PLI bond, available on DigiLocker, enables Policyholders to download their policy bond immediately after its Issuance. Additionally, Online Premium payments can be done and through IPPB mobile app easily.

Shri Vikas Palwe, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices described various benefits of Postal Life Insurance like Government’s Guarantee on Investment, Income tax exemptions under Section 80, Low Premium - High Bonus, Loan facilities on policies, online premium payment option and Discounts on Advance Premium Payment. The bonus rate on policies ranges from ₹ 52 per thousand to ₹ 76 per thousand.

Assistant Superintendent of Posts, Shri S. N. Ghori said that Postal Life Insurance Coverage ranging from ₹ 20,000 to ₹ 50 lakh is available across all Post Offices in the Country.

Assistant Director, Shri M. M. Sheikh told that Postal Life Insurance Day was celebrated in various locations across North Gujarat region by arranging Life Insurance Camps where People were made aware about the Schemes and their Insurance Policies were also taken during Camps.

Ghori, Shri Hardik Rathod, Shri Hitesh Parikh, Shri Vishal Chauhan, Shri Alkesh Parmar, Shri Ronak Shah, Inspector Shri Bhavin Prajapati, Branch Postmaster Shri Prakash Bhai Shah and many other esteemed Guests attended the function.
