CBI court sentences then ESIC inspector to 3 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs. 20 lakh fine in disproportionate assets case

CBI Court sentences accused then Inspector of Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Ahmedabad to 03 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs 20 Lakh in a Disproportionate Assets Case.
The Special Judge for CBI cases, Court No. - 01, Ahmedabad today sentenced accused Anil Kumar Singh, then Inspector, Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Ahmedabad to 03 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs. 20 Lakh in a Disproportionate Assets Case.
CBI had registered the instant case on 31.12.2007 against accused Anil Kumar Singh, then Inspector, ESIC, Ahmedabad on the allegations that accused during the period 01.08.2001 to 30.11.2007, had amassed assets disproportionate to his known source of income to the tune of Rs. 19,44,018/- which was 314% in excess to his known source of income.
After completion of investigation, charge-sheet was filed by CBI on 09.12.2009 against accused including the accused convicted/sentenced today. It was revealed during investigation that accused amassed assets to the tune of Rs. 22,15,609/- disproportionate to their known source of income, during the check period 01.01.2000 to 01.07.2006 which was 84.6 % in excess to their known source of income.
The Court, after trial, found accused Sh. Anil Kumar Singh guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
During trial, 59 prosecution witnesses were examined and 168 documents/ exhibits were relied upon in support of the charges against the accused.
