The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office-II conducted a search and seizure operation on 28th January 2025 at M/s Baby Cart LLP, located in Bhiwandi, Thane district. During the operation, a large quantity of 367 unmarked electrical and non-electrical toys were seized. These toys were being stored and sold without valid ISI certification marks, which is a violation of the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016.

In accordance with Section 17, read with Section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, the BIS will file a criminal complaint against the company for violating the provisions of the Act. Additionally, action will be taken against e-commerce websites where such spurious products were found available for sale. As per the BIS Act, violators can face imprisonment for up to two years and/or a fine of no less than two lakh rupees for the first offense, with the fine increasing to five lakh rupees or more for subsequent contraventions. The court may also impose fines up to ten times the value of the goods involved. To prevent the distribution of fake goods and to protect consumers, BIS regularly conducts search and seizure operations in response to reports of misuse.

Consumers are encouraged to verify the BIS certification status of products before making a purchase. The BIS Care App allows users to check the status of the license for any product. If a license is found to be Suspended, Deferred, or Expired, consumers may file complaints via the app. BIS also urges the public to report any misuse of BIS Standard Marks (including ISI Mark, Hallmark, and BIS Registration Marks) through email, letter or the BIS Care App, available for download on Google Play Store and App Store. All reports will be kept confidential.
