Three-Day Workshop on Cultural Diversity and Sensitivity under PM - USHA started at RTMNU Nagpur

A three-day workshop starting from 29th January on “Cultural Diversity and Sensitivity” was inaugurated at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-UShA). Prof. Milind Sudhakar Marathe, Chairman, National Book Trust under union Ministry of Education inaugurated the workshop. The Vice Chancellor of RTMNU Dr. Prashant Bokare was also chairing this session.

Prof. Milind S. Marathe, and Chief Guest of the inaugural session expressed his views on Indian Cultural Diversity and Sensitivity in the perspective of Science and Technology. Stating the Newton’s Laws, he illustrated how traditional knowledge and modern advancements interact. In his speech, he told the audience that Sensitivity in science and technology ensures that innovations cater to the needs of all sections of society, respecting indigenous knowledge, ethical considerations, and regional challenges. He highlighted that from Ayurveda’s integration into modern medicine to multilingual AI tools, India’s scientific growth thrives on inclusivity, proving that cultural diversity is not just a heritage but a driving force for technological excellence and social advancement.
Prof. Prashant S. Bokare, VC of RTMNU in his presidential speech said, “India’s saree traditions reflect its immense cultural diversity, with each region showcasing unique fabrics, weaves, and draping styles that carry deep historical and social significance.” He addressed the audience, “Indians are always culturally sensitive individuals, who embrace differences with open hearts and minds.”
Dr.Bokare also told that we are always culturally sensitive to respect and cherish each other’s differences, and to work together in building a society where every culture feels valued.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. Shalini Lihitkar, co-ordinator of the programme and Profesor Department of Library and Information Science said, “In our programme we have designed to inspire meaningful engagement and promote inclusivity across diverse communities. Through engaging activities like a Poster Competition on the Influence of Cultural Diversity on the Development of Science, an Elocution Competition on Cultural Best Practices in Higher Education, a Case Study on Cultural Empowerment, a Cultural Quiz Competition, and an exciting Food and Cultural Exchange Programme, the workshop seeks to create a vibrant platform for learning, interaction, and celebration of cultural richness.”
She further added, “It’s an opportunity to embrace diversity, share knowledge, and build stronger and more inclusive communities.”

Dr. Gouri Basu, Former Director, Anthropological Survey of India & EZCC under union Ministry of Culture, the Guest of Honour of the session said, “India is a land of extraordinary cultural diversity. With 28 states and 8 union territories, each with its own unique traditions, languages, and practices, India stands as a testament to the beauty of coexistence.”
Dr. Basu also emphasized, “Cultural diversity is the harmonious blend of various religions, languages, festivals, cuisines, and art forms. From the Himalayas to Kanyakumari, every corner of India tells a different story. However, this diversity comes with a responsibility and that is the cultural sensitivity. It’s about understanding, respecting, and celebrating these differences while fostering inclusivity.”
Among the other dignitaries Prof. Rajendra Kakde, Pro VC, RTMNU ,Prof. Smita Acharya, Director, IQAC and Prof. Payel Thaorey, Department of Law of RTMNU were present.
