Nagpur, 14 January 2025
Nagpur witnessed a heartfelt celebration of the Ninth Armed Forces Veteran’s Day in the Headquarters Maintenance Command, Vayusena Nagar, on 14 January 2025. This solemn occasion paid a befitting tribute to the unparalleled service and sacrifices of our veterans, bringing together retired and serving personnel, their families, and esteemed dignitaries. The event not only served as a reminder of the nation’s enduring gratitude but also celebrated the indomitable spirit and legacy of our veterans who dedicated their lives to safeguarding India’s sovereignty and integrity.

The Armed Forces Veteran’s Day holds a special place in the annals of Indian history. On this very day in 1953, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief on the Indian Army, formally retired from service. In recognition of his monumental contributions, this day is celebrated annually since its inception in 2016, and this year marked its 9th edition.
The celebration was graced by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, who presided as the Chief Guest and Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command.

The event began with a wreath-laying ceremony, a solemn moment where the Chief Guest, veterans, and serving personnel paid homage to the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. This was followed by a series of engaging and meaningful events, wherein, the Veterans were honoured for their service with heartfelt tributes. Eminent speakers from the Directorate of Air Veterans, Zila Sainik Board Nagpur, and nationalized banks delivered lectures aimed at addressing the welfare and financial well-being of veterans.
In his keynote speech, Shri Nitin Gadkari lauded the veterans for their unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifices. He reiterated the nation’s commitment to their welfare and emphasized the importance of honouring their legacy as an inspiration for future generations.
The Ninth Armed Forces Veteran’s Day Celebrations concluded on a high note, leaving attendees with a deep sense of pride, nostalgia, and gratitude. In his closing remarks, Shri Gadkari congratulated the participants, officials, and organizers for the successful execution of the event.
As we honour the bravery and selflessness of our veterans, we reaffirm our collective commitment to their welfare and well-being. The Armed Forces Veteran’s Day continues to be a cherished occasion to pay tribute to their legacy and inspire the generations to come.
“Veterans are the embodiment of courage, service and sacrifice, and their legacy will forever guide our nation’s future.”
