Ministry of Defence Launches Resettlement Course on Innovation and Agribusiness Management for Armed Forces Personnel

The Ministry of Defence's Resettlement Zone (Southern Command) recently inaugurated the Resettlement Course on Innovation and Agribusiness Management for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Retired Officers (ROs) from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The course, running from 23rd December 2024 to 14th February 2025, is designed to provide armed forces personnel with the necessary skills and insights to seamlessly transition into the fields of agribusiness and entrepreneurship.
The inauguration ceremony took place at VAMNICOM, Pune and was attended by key dignitaries, including ADG, DRZ (Southern Command), Brig. Rohit Mehta, and Director of VAMNICOM Dr. HemaYadav. The course has been designed to harness the leadership, discipline, and strategic thinking skills honed during military service, enabling participants to excel in agribusiness—a sector critical to India’s sustainable economic growth. Through expert-led lectures, interactive workshops, and practical case studies, the program will cover essential topics such as farm-to-market supply chains, innovations in agri-tech, financial management, and entrepreneurial strategies for agribusiness ventures.
Speaking at the event, Dr. HemaYadav highlighted the importance of innovation and sustainable agriculture as the cornerstones of India's economic future, emphasizing the manner in which the qualities of armed forces personnel make them ideally suited for this sector. Brig. Rohit Mehta, ADG, DRZ (South), applauded the initiative, describing it as a pivotal step in supporting the resettlement of armed forces personnel while enabling them to contribute to national development. Dr. Mahesh Kadam, Programme Director delivered the welcome followed by a keynote speech by Dr. HemaYadav. Special address was delivered by Brig. Rohit Mehta, with the session concluding with a vote of thanks from Dr. Kadam.
This program is a step towards empowering our nation’s defenders to lead impactful careers in agribusiness while contributing to India's sustainable growth. In total, 46 trainees from Army, Navy and Air force from PAN India have joined the training programme nominated by Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (Ministry of Defence).In the financial year 2024-25 VAMNICOM have allotted two batches to train Armed Forces Joined Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other rank officers (ORs) from Army, Navy and Airforce. Till dated, VAMNICOM have completed two batches of training in financial year 2022-23 and 2023-24.
About DGR
The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) is an Inter Service organization functioning directly under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (Ministry of Defence). In order to maintain a youthful profile of the Armed Forces, approximately 60,000 service personnel are retired/released every year at comparatively young age. Majority of the service personnel at the time of retirement are at an age where they have numerous unfinished domestic responsibilities, which necessitate their taking up second occupation. DGR assists Ex-Servicemen to train and acquire additional skills with a strong emphasis on evolving requirement of corporate and industry and facilitate their resettlement through a second career.
