India’s Renewable Energy Push: Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi Calls for Collaboration in Western Region


'Renewable energy leads the way in job creation: Union Minister

The inaugural session of the regional workshop on advancing India’s renewable energy agenda was  held today in Mumbai.The event was also attended by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power; Shri Atul Moreshwar Save, Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Maharashtra; Shri Kanubhai Mohanlal Desai, Minister for Finance, Energy & Petrochemicals, Gujarat; and Shri Sudin Dhavalikar, Minister of Non-Conventional Sources of Energy, Goa.

Union Minister highlighted that despite low per capita electricity consumption, India is a global leader in renewable energy. Shri Joshi stated that the key targets for 2030 included    achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity, ensuring 50% of installed power to be generated from non-fossil sources, and reducing carbon emissions by 1 billion tonnes. Additionally, there is a goal to achieve a 45% reduction in emission intensity of GDP, with the long-term objective of reaching net-zero emissions by 2070.

India’s flagship programs like the PM-KUSUM Scheme, PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission are pivotal in transforming the renewable energy landscape. Shri Joshi outlined significant achievements stating that Maharashtra has emerged as a model state in implementing PM-KUSUM, with a target to solarise 35 lakh agricultural pumps by 2025.

“India is on track to achieve its renewable energy goals with the collective efforts of states and stakeholders. Together, we are creating a brighter, cleaner future for our country,” Shri Joshi concluded.
