Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hosts the BIS Standards Carnival Celebrating its 78th Foundation Day


Students are targeted through this Carnival so that we can develop a quality culture in the country : BIS

More than 1300 students Attend the Carnival

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India hosted the BIS Standard Carnival to commemorate its 78th Foundation Day. Around 1300 students from 30 different Schools and colleges participated in the event at the BIS CETTM Complex, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai, today, 08th Januaty 2025.

Deputy Director General , BIS, Sanjay Goswami, stated, "Today's programme was organised particularly to reach out to the students about quality standards so that as they grow up and as they enter their professional life, they will be able to implement these by understanding the significance of these which will eventually result in production of quality products and services in the country." He added that the carnival was specifically to create awareness among students.

Scientist-E and Head Mumbai Branch Office - 2, Prem Sajani, mentioned that, "Through this carnival we want our BIS club students to know what are the products BIS certifies and what all quality parameters are checked in those products.We are looking forward to do more and more programmes like this so that we can develop a quality culture in our country  and we want to make everyone aware of different standards"

Scientist-B and Head Mumbai Branch Office - 1,Pinaki.Gupta, added saying that, "Our aim is to make awareness regarding Quality Standards to all. The main guests of this Carnival are our children.They are responsible for deciding the quality standards in the future".

BIS Standards Carnival explored key themes shaping the future of industry and consumer safety: The Future of Standardization, Conformity Assessment for Quality, Creating Demand for Quality, and Digital Solutions for Enhanced Standards. The event featured  creative displays of innovative student projects and industry products that showcase the profound impact of BIS standards on quality, safety, and progress across various sectors.

There were dedicated stalls highlighting ISI-marked products, underscoring their crucial role in strengthening India's quality assurance ecosystem and promoting consumer trust. The event aimed at bringing together industry leaders, innovators, students, and government representatives to engage in discussions and explore key themes surrounding the role of standards in India's growth.

Additionally, the event emphasized innovation and sustainability, offering insights into how BIS is helping drive India's global leadership in standardization, ensuring consumer protection, and fostering innovation and sustainability in industry practices. The carnival served as a unique platform to discuss the critical role of standardization and quality in driving India’s global leadership ambitions. The participants gained a deeper understanding of how BIS is contributing to innovation, sustainability, and consumer safety, ultimately fostering a culture of quality in India.
