National Sample Survey on Household Social Consumption: Health and Comprehensive Modular Survey on Telecom (CMS-T) Set to Begin on January 1, 2025

The National Statistics Office (NSO) under Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is set to launch the 80th Round of National Sample Survey on Household Social Consumption: Health and Comprehensive Modular Survey on Telecom (CMS-T) from 1st January, 2025 across the country. Field Operation Division of NSO Mumbai organised a four-day Regional Training Camp (RTC) for the Maharashtra West Region at Navi Mumbai, starting from today. The NSO and State Directorates of Economics & Statistics (DES) will carry out the survey on Health jointly for a period of one year starting from 1st January 2025. CMS-T will be conducted by the NSO during January-March, 2025. 

 

Smt. Supriya Roy, Deputy Director General, Regional Office, NSO, Mumbai, inaugurated the Regional Training Camp by lighting the ceremonial lamp, along with Dr. Sachin Gaikwad, Chief Medical Officer, CGHS, Shri Anand S Ladhe, Scientist-F, NIC, Smt. R. P. Thote, Jt. Director and Shri S. C. Lad, Deputy Director from Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Maharashtra, Shri K. Rajagopal, Assistant Director, NSO(FOD), Regional Office Mumbai and Shri H V Rabhadiya, Assistant Director, NSO(FOD), Sub Regional Office, Thane. In her address, she exclaimed “The objective of the survey is to cover information related to the health sector and morbidity, which is the indicator pertaining to the health of the country”. Shri Sachin Gaikwad, Chief Medical Officer, CGHS, emphasised the importance of health survey for the overall development of the country. Shri Anand S Ladhe, Scientist-F, NIC, highlighted that information on telecom-related indicators and ICT skills will hugely help the Government to take important policy decisions.  The survey is aimed to provide information relevant to the extent of use of health services of both public and private institutions, ‘out of pocket expense’ as well as access to government financed health insurance programmes for treatments, proportion of institutional childbirth, etc. The Comprehensive Modular Survey on Telecom will provide information on telecom-related indicators and ICT skills. The collected data will also be used for reporting of global indices by Ministries/ Departments. The cooperation of the general public in patiently answering the questions posed by the interviewer is required to make the survey successful.

 

The National Sample Survey is an important source of data used for generating estimates for policy formulations and research, for overall development of the country. The RTC will provide a platform to discuss the various technical intricacies regarding the survey. Senior Officers from Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Maharashtra, field officers from NSO(FOD) Mumbai and Thane were also present amongst the dignitaries.

 

 

NSO will also be re-launching Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and Annual Survey on Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) on a larger scale with extensive coverage from 1st January, 2025. The PLFS Survey has been the primary source of statistics on labour force, and structure of employment and unemployment in the country. The ASUSE survey is devoted exclusively to economic and operational characteristics of unincorporated non-agriculture establishment in manufacturing, trade and other services sector.

IMPORTANCE OF THE  SURVEYS

Household Social Consumption - Health :

The survey on health aims to generate basic quantitative information on the health sector. Primarily, indicators on morbidity, hospitalization rates, utilization of both public and private health care institutions, proportion of institutional childbirth etc. will be attempted to be derived from this survey data with special emphasis on ‘out of pocket expense’ as well as on access to government financed health insurance programmes.

Comprehensive Modular Survey (CMS) - Telecom :

The CMS-T will provide information on telecom-related indicators and ICT skills. The collected data will also be used for reporting of global indices by Ministries/ Departments.

Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) :

The PLFS Survey has been the primary source of statistics on labour force, activity participation of the population and structure of employment and unemployment in the country.

Annual Survey on Unincorporated Service sector Enterprises (ASUSE) :

The ASUSE survey which will be devoted exclusively to economic and operational characteristics of unincorporated non-agriculture establishment in manufacturing, trade and other services sector.
