Women farmers participate in large numbers at FSSAI West Region's Food Safety Awareness Programme on Kisan Diwas

On the occasion of Kisan Diwas, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) West Region organized an awareness program to educate farmers on the importance of food safety in agriculture. The event focused on critical topics like food safety standards, rice fortification, pesticide use and its side effects and proper food labeling and packaging.

The awareness programme witnessed participation of more the 150 women farmers.
Experts at the program emphasized how food safety begins at the farm. Farmers were guided on minimizing pesticide usage and exploring eco-friendly alternatives to protect both crops and consumers. Sessions also covered rice fortification to enhance nutritional value and the need for proper labeling and packaging to meet safety and quality standards.

The importance of personal hygiene and maintaining cleanliness during farming processes was highlighted, as these practices play a vital role in ensuring food safety. Farmers were also introduced to emerging trends like organic farming, which offers sustainable solutions for healthier produce and environmental conservation.
In addition to the informative sessions, the event featured a Rice-Based Dishes recipe competition, where participants showcased both traditional and innovative rice recipes. The competition received enthusiastic participation, and the event culminated in a prize distribution ceremony to recognize and encourage the creativity and efforts of the participants.
This initiative reaffirms FSSAI's commitment to empowering farmers with knowledge and encouraging safe, sustainable agricultural practices.
