WAVES Anime & Manga contest (WAM!) launched from Guwahati as part of ‘Create in India Challenge’ – Season 1

The WAVES Anime and Manga Contest (WAM!), a key part of the upcoming World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2024, was launched today from Guwahati at the NEDFi Convention Centre. This innovative contest is a part of the Create in India Challenge - Season 1 and aims to nurture local talent and tap into the growing interest in Japanese manga and anime among Indian audiences.

The Media & Entertainment Association of India (MEAI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, successfully conducted the event today. The event attracted 54 participants competing across Manga, Webtoon, and Anime categories, alongside 20 talented Cosplay artists bringing to life a variety of anime and gaming characters.
The Cosplay competition was judged by Ez (Ankita Barthakur, Sr. Admin, Assam Cosplay Community), while the Manga, Webtoon, and Anime contests were evaluated by an esteemed jury comprising Sushil Bhasin (President, MEAI) and Rishiraj Debroy (Shiroyasha, Founder, Barak Valley Anime Community).
The Cosplay Winners are Rahul Patir, Leo & Nunam and Siddharth Dutta who stood in the first, second and third position respectively. The results for the Manga, Webtoon, and Anime contests will be announced shortly.
The WAVES Anime & Manga Contest (WAM!) was officially launched by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in collaboration with the Media & Entertainment Association of India (MEAI). WAM is an integral part of WAVES (World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit – https://wavesindia.org/), India’s largest summit for the AVGC-XR and Media & Entertainment sectors.
Background
On 22nd August, 2024, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics & Information Technology, had unveiled the Create in India Challenge - Season One at New Delhi. These challenges will serve as a precursor to the upcoming World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Design in India, Design for the World,” articulated during the 78th Independence Day address.
To harness and nurture this potential, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has launched 27 challenges aimed at promoting talent and creativity across a variety of fields, including music,education, and anti-piracy.
