17th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2024 to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat

The 17th UMI Conference & Exhibition 2024 is being organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs through the Institute of Urban Transport (India) and with the support of Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. from 25th to 27th October, 2024 at Mahatama Mandir Convention Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The Conference will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel. A number of dignitaries and delegates, Senior Officials from Central and State governments, policy makers, Managing Directors of Metro Rail Companies, Chief Executives of transport undertakings, international experts, professionals and academicians shall grace the occasion.
This year, the Conference will focus on the theme “Standardisation and Optimisation of Urban Transport Solutions”. It will emphasize on harmonising standards for Optimising urban mobility particularly in the Indian context. It will deliberate on the framework for integration of various modes in urban mobility, multilateral and bilateral funding in view of the Make in India policy, importance of big data for transport planning, E-Bus Eco-system in India, benchmarking of cost in Metro system, digital public infrastructure principles in relation to E-Bus transition, innovative financing and other issues and challenges in Urban transport.
It will also dwell on vision for clean air cities, urban freight, urban transport solutions for small and middle towns in India, 15 minutes cities and sustainable urban mobility, role of Public Private Partnership in public transport, etc.
The exhibition, comprising of display of best practices in urban transport in India and abroad, latest urban transport technologies, services and in other related fields is an important part of the UMI Conference organized every year. It will be inaugurated by the Chief Guest on day one and will continue on all the 3 days. About 76 exhibitors from Metro Rail Companies, public and private sectors will participate.

Background
The National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), 2006 of the Government of India, inter-alia, lays strong emphasis on building capabilities at the state and city level to address the new challenges associated with urban transport and lays down the guidelines for developing equitable and sustainable urban transport systems for all sections of the society.As part of the NUTP enunciations, the Ministry took the initiative to organize this annual international Conference-cum-Exhibition on Urban Mobility India popularly known as UMI. The primary objective of the conference is to disseminate information to the cities, to help them keep up-to-date with latest and best urban transport practices globally. The conference provides an opportunity to interact with other professionals, technology and service providers, both domestic and international, so that the delegates get an up-to-date trend to develop their urban transport along a sustainable path. The event brings together national and international experts, technology and service providers, policy makers, practitioners and officials from the urban transport sector under one roof.
