As per the Direction of Dr. Makarand Madhao Ghangrekar, Director, NIT Puducherry, an awareness program on tobacco was held on 16-10-2024, jointly organized by the NSS unit of the National Institute of Technology Puducherry, Karaikal, and the National Tobacco Control Programme, Karaikal District Health Society, Karaikal. The program's primary objective was to raise awareness about tobacco and distribute informative messages to all young people in the community.

Dr. Nandhini Vignesh, Medical Officer at the Primary Health Centre, Varichikudy, Karaikal, delivered a speech on tobacco awareness. She explained the composition of tobacco, the consequences of smoking, passive smoking, and the health risks associated with tobacco consumption.

Dr. Thiyagarajan, Medical Officer, Mr. Balasundaram, Health Inspector, and J. Karthikeyan, Health Assistant, all from the Primary Health Center, Varichikudy, Karaikal, accompanied her. The program was conducted in the presence of Dr. S. Sundaravarathan, Registrar, NIT Puducherry, Dr. N. Sendhil Kumar, Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. Vani V, Associate Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. Karthik N, NSS Coordinator. Approximately 200 first-year students participated in the program. At the end of the event, prizes were given to the top three participants who won in the drawing competition and speech competition were conducted to raise tobacco awareness.
