Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the new terminal at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur on Wednesday. The foundation stone for the project, which has a total estimated cost of around Rs 7,000 crore, was laid by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi via video conferencing.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Gadkari emphasized that the new terminal will serve as a growth engine not only for Vidarbha but also for neighboring states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. He noted that, in addition to hosting many international flights, the new terminal will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a cargo capacity of 900,000 tons.
He stated, "All these factors will soon make Nagpur Airport a game changer for all of central India."

Over the last decade, Nagpur has witnessed significant development. Known as the Orange Capital, the city is now also recognized as the Tiger Capital, attracting tourists from across the country, including many celebrities. Recently, a remarkable four-layer bridge was inaugurated, marking a unique infrastructure achievement. With basic facilities like 24/7 water supply, the city hosts several prominent educational institutions, including AIIMS, IIM, and Symbiosis. The recent expansion of MIHAN has also generated a substantial number of jobs.
The upgraded airport is expected to enhance existing development activities and create new opportunities for central India. Shri Gadkari expressed his hope that one day, flights from Nagpur Airport will be fueled by bio-aviation fuel produced by Vidarbha farmers.
