AYJNISHD (D) Mumbai, under Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, observes the ‘International Week of Deaf People’ from September 23 to 29, 2024. This year’s theme focuses on raising awareness about the rights of Deaf children, fostering a global commitment to the motto: ‘Sign up for Sign Language Rights’.

The week-long initiative aims to engage the public in understanding the importance of Indian Sign Language (ISL) through a series of dynamic events at AYJNISHD (D)’s Bandra West campus. Attendees can look forward to street plays, ‘nukad-natak’, competitions, and opportunities for teachers and parents to learn the basics of ISL.

In line with its dedication to inclusivity in education, AYJNISHD (D) is committed to building resilient Deaf communities, celebrating Deaf culture, and promoting well-being for individuals with hearing challenges. This observance is part of the Government of India’s ongoing efforts to enhance awareness and accessibility of ISL for all citizens.

With five centers across Mumbai, Secunderabad, Janla, Kolkata, and Goa, AYJNISHD (D) offers a two-year Diploma in Teaching Indian Sign Language (DTISL) for adult Deaf individuals, approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India.
