Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma scheme represents a significant step towards empowering traditional artisans: Shri Eatala Rajender

 On the sidelines of National 'PM Vishwakarma' Programme in Maharashtra's Wardha today and to celebrate one year of achievements under the PM Vishwakarma scheme  an event was organised by National skill Training Institute (NSTI), Vidyanagar today in Hyderabad.

 

Shri Eatala Rajender Hon’ble M.P Malkajgiri, Telangana attended as chief guest for the programme. Addressing the event Shri Etala Rajender said, that The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma scheme represents a significant step towards empowering traditional artisans and craftspeople in India. Highlighting the benefits of PM Vishwakarma he said that this scheme has become a game-changer for the livelihoods of many Vishwakarma’s and the preservation of India's rich cultural heritage. He informed that PM Vishwakarma implementation in Telangana is showing a promising progress, with substantial enrollment and training activities conducted across the state.  He said that Maximum enrolments received from Telangana from Tailors. Thus, PM Vishwa karma is empowering traditional artisans and craftspeople by providing modern tools training and financial assistance to enhance their livehoods, he added.

 During the event chief guest distributed PM Vishwakarma certificates to the eligible beneficiaries.

Shri K.Srinivasa Rao Director of National Instructional Media Institute, Chennai Regional Director of RDSDE Telangana & Andhra Pradesh National skill Training Institute ( NSTI), Vidyanagar and artisans from different parts of Telangana participated in the program.

Background:

The PM Vishwakarma scheme was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on last year on 17th September 2023, to provide end-to-end support to artisans and craftspeople of 18 trades who work with their hands and tools.

 

The Scheme covers artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 trades, viz. (i) Carpenter (Suthar/Badhai); (ii) Boat Maker; (iii) Armourer; (iv) Blacksmith (Lohar); (v) Hammer and Tool Kit Maker; (vi) Locksmith; (vii) Goldsmith (Sonar); (viii) Potter (Kumhaar); (ix) Sculptor (Moortikar, stone carver), Stone breaker; (x) Cobbler (Charmakar)/ Shoesmith/Footwear artisan; (xi) Mason (Rajmistri); (xii) Basket/Mat/Broom Maker/Coir Weaver; (xiii) Doll & Toy Maker (Traditional); (xiv) Barber (Naai); (xv) Garland maker (Malakaar); (xvi) Washerman (Dhobi); (xvii) Tailor (Darzi); and (xviii) Fishing Net Maker.

 

Recognised of artisans and craftspeople Under this scheme will be given a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card. For their Skill Upgradation Basic Training of 5-7 days and Advanced Training of 15 days or more, with a stipend of Rs. 500 per day and transport allowance of Rs 1000 will be given. A toolkit incentive of up to Rs. 15,000 through e-vouchers. Collateral free ‘Enterprise Development Loans’ of upto Rs. 3 lakhs in two tranches of Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 2 lakhs with tenures of 18 months and 30 months, respectively, at a concessional rate of interest fixed at 5%, with Government of India subvention to the extent of 8% will be provided for the beneficiaries. Enrolment of beneficiaries is being done through Common Service Centres with Aadhaar-based biometric authentication on PM Vishwakarma portal. (iii) Approval by the Screening Committee.

 

Till now more than 20 lakh artisans and craftspeople have been registered under the Scheme across the country after verification. Over 8 lakh beneficiaries have undergone skill upgradation training across the country which has enhanced their abilities and productivity-vouchers for modern toolkits, worth Rs. 15,000 each, have been issued to more than 6.5 lakh beneficiaries across the country and the toolkits are being delivered at their doorsteps. Over 1.60 lakh loans amounting to Rs. 1,400 crores have been sanctioned across the country, empowering beneficiaries to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

- Centers Started Training: 85

- Districts Covered: 26

- Job Roles in Training: 14 (including Tailor, Mason, Carpenter, etc.)

 

3. Enrollment and Completion

- Total Enrollment (Training Completed): 29,70161 (929 Batches)

- Ongoing Training: 1183 participants (48 batches)

 

4. Support Provided

- Stipend Paid: 20,037

- Applicants Selected for Toolkit: 30,496

- Loans Processed: 2,951
