FSSAI Western Region Successfully Organizes NutriWise-2024: Nurturing Nutrition through Innovation

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Western Region (WR) proudly hosted NutriWise-2024: Nurturing Nutrition through Innovation at ITCFSAN, Mumbai, bringing together leading experts and over 100 students from various food science, technology, and nutrition fraternities from different colleges. The event, organized as part of the ongoing Nutrition Month 2024, aimed to celebrate and inspire innovation in the food and nutrition sectors.
The event commenced with an insightful session by Ms. Vaidehi Kalzunkar, Deputy Director, FSSAI WR, who provided an overview of FSSAI’s food safety regulations and their importance in safeguarding public health.
A highlight of the program was the panel discussion, titled ‘Nurturing Nutrition through Innovation’, featuring experts from diverse fields- Dr. Sachin Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner, FDA Maharashtra, Ms. Chitra Kamath, Acting Director for India, Invest and Trade Western Australia, Dr. Jyoti Gokhale, Assistant Professor, ICT, Mumbai & Hon. Secretary, AFSTI- Mumbai Chapter, Dt. Sukhada Bhatte, Nutrition Science Specialist, Dr. Reddy’s Lab & IDA, Mumbai Chapter, Ms. Karishma Bhalla, Co-founder, Taramis Labs.
Moderated by Ms. Subhaprada Nishtala, Senior Faculty, ITCFSAN, the discussion provided thought-provoking insights into how innovation is reshaping nutrition, addressing contemporary challenges, and enhancing global food systems.
The event was graced by Shri. Amir Khan, Officer on Special Duty to the Hon. Minister for School Education, Marathi Language, and Mumbai Guardian Ministry, who shared his thoughts on how education and food safety can create a healthier, safer future for India.

Following this, the Prize Distribution Ceremony was held, where winners of the Photography and Digital Poster Making Competitions were honored. The celebration reflected FSSAI’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation in promoting food safety and nutrition among the youth.
In her keynote address, Ms. Pritee Chaudhary (IRS), Regional Director, FSSAI WR, emphasized the amalgamation of tradition and innovation by the younger generation as a crucial element in placing India on the global map. She highlighted the importance of preserving traditional knowledge while embracing modern technologies to solve contemporary issues in food and nutrition.
The program also featured a captivating skit performance titled ‘Heritage on Plate’, where students from Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Matunga, Mumbai, highlighted India’s rich culinary heritage. The skit beautifully presented India’s culinary journey in an entertaining yet informative format, blending education with creativity.
NutriWise-2024 served its purpose of celebrating Nutrition Month 2024, while inspiring the younger generation to contribute to a safe, secure, and prosperous future in the food industry.
