Thailand-NFDC Film Festival Begins at NFDC Premises

Mumbai, 14th September 2024

The Thailand-NFDC Film Festival kicked off on 12th September 2024 with a vibrant opening ceremony at the NFDC premises. The four-day festival showcases cinematic and cultural exchange between India and Thailand. The event started with a brief meeting between NFDC's Managing Director and also the Joint Secretary of Broadcasting-2 (MIB) Mr. Prithul Kumar and Mr. Donnawit Poolsawat, the Consul General of Thailand, accompanied by a delegation from Thailand.

The festival was officially inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Mr. D Ramakrishnan, GM of NFDC, Consulate General of Thailand and the Chief Guest for the day Ms. Meghna Malik, an acclaimed actress across television, film, and theatre, rose to fame with her critically acclaimed portrayal of Ammaji in the iconic series ‘Na Aana Is Des Laado’. A graduate of the National School of Drama, her career spans over two decades, marked by versatility and impactful performances that have left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry .

Following this, the schedule for the festival, featuring six Thai films and three NFDC productions, was unveiled.

In his welcome address, Mr. Ramakrishnan highlighted the festival as the fourth collaboration between NFDC and countries, celebrating the rich diversity of both nations’ films. Mr. Donnawit Poolsawat expressed his excitement, emphasizing how films can bridge cultures and convey powerful emotions.

The evening continued with a quick quiz hosted by Jayita Ghosh, Manager of NFDC NMIC, where lucky winners received souvenirs. Guests also enjoyed an authentic Thai culinary experience, courtesy of the Consulate General, featuring dishes such as Gai Ta Krai and Kra Tong Thong.

The first screening, ‘Necromancer’, a Thai drama directed by Piyapan Choopetch, closed the evening on a high note, setting the stage for the festival’s upcoming screenings.

The Thailand-NFDC Film Festival will run until 15th September 2024, fostering cinematic appreciation and cross-cultural dialogue.
