Team BF-8 wins the In-Plant Safety Circle Competition at SAIL-BSP

The Safety Engineering Department (SED) of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant organised the In-Plant Safety Circle Competition, at HRD Centre, from 09th to 11th September 2024. A total of 34 teams, comprising both BSP Employees and Contractor Workers took part in the competition and presented their Case Studies on safety measures which were evaluated by a panel of six judges over two days. Shri. Anirban Dasgupta, Director I/c (SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant) was the Chief Guest at Valedictory Function of the Competition on 11th September 2024, at HRD Centre, while Shri. G.P. Singh, Vice President (Quality Circle Forum, India) & Former CGM (SED-BSP) was present as Special Guest.

The winner of the competition, ‘Team Sukriti’ from Blast Furnace-8 won the In-Plant Safety Circle Competition, while ‘Team Saviours’ from Water Management Department stood at the first runner-up, prize, whereas the second runner-up prize was bagged by ‘Team Safe-tech’ from Power and Blowing Station. The winning ‘Team Sukriti’ also gave presentation on their Case Study based on safety measures at the Valedictory Function.

Shri. Anjani Kumar, ED (Works), Shri. S. Mukhopadhyay, ED (Projects), Shri. A.K. Chakraborty, ED (MM), and Shri. Pawan Kumar, ED (HR), were present at the Valedictory Function, along with other Senior Officials, Personnel and participants in larger numbers.

It is noteworthy that on 09th September 2024, by Shri P K Sarkar, CGM I/c (Services) inaugurated the In-Plant Safety Circle Competition in presence of Shri P R Bhalla, CGM (OHP), Smt. Nisha Soni, CGM (HR-LD&BE), Shri Rajiv Pandey, CGM (Power Facilities), and Shri Devdutt Satpathy, CGM (Fire Services).

Shri. Anirban Dasgupta congratulated the participants in his address and emphasised the importance of both top-down and bottom-up approaches in building a culture of safety awareness in Bhilai Steel Plant. Shri. Dasgupta highlighted on greater involvement of grassroots workers in future programs and the formation of more number of Safety Circle teams at the Plant.

Shri G.P. Singh highlighted the importance of the In-Plant Safety Circle Competition and expressed his vision to take it to an international platform. Shri Anjani Kumar ED (Works) encouraged the participants to continue their efforts to improve safety initiatives withy their innovative practices while adhering to safety protocols and keeping in mind the ultimate goal of zero accidents.

Shri S. Mukhopadhyay ED (Projects) emphasized the importance of Hazard & Risk Analysis in preventing accidents at the workplace, while Shri A.K. Chakraborty, ED (MM) emphasized the need to promote a strong and all-inclusive safety culture in Bhilai Steel Plant. Shri Pawan Kumar ED (HR) in his address appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants and urged everyone present to work in the future with the same spirit.

At the outset, Shri S K Agrawal, GM I/c (Safety) in his Welcome Address gave a brief description of the objective and significance of this competition and the participants. Shri. Sumit Kumar, Asst. Mgr (SED) compered the Valedictory Function, while, Shri Devdutt Satpathy, CGM (Safety & Fire Services) proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Departmental employees from SED including Shri. Ajay Gone, (AGM), Shri. Ajay Tallu (Senior Manager), Shri. Sumit Kumar (Assistant Manager), Shri. Suraj Verma (Assistant Manager), Shri. Ashutosh Pradhan (Assistant Manager), Shri. Arijit Roy (Assistant Manager), Shri. Venkatpati Raju (Assistant Manager) and other members also contributed in organising the competition successfully.
