Karimannur, Idukki: Farmers training and district level inauguration of Scheduled Castes sub-project was held at Karimannur Grama Panchayat Community Hall. The program was organized by the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Elamdesam Block Panchayat and Karimannur Grama Panchayat. Former Head of Section of Crop Utilization, CTCRI, Dr. M. S. Sajeev was the chairman.

Inauguration of the training program was done by the President of the Block Panchayat, Mr. Tommy Thomas. Distribution of planting material was performed by Karimannur Grama Panchayat President Smt. Nizamol Shaji. Deputy Director of Agriculture Mrs. Dina Abraham welcomed and then Ms. Ashley Mariamma George, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Ms. Ansi Syriac Standing Committee Chairperson, Ansi Sojan Block Panchayat Member gave felicitations. In the training program that followed, Dr. K. Sunil Kumar gave an explanation of Scheduled Castes sub-project. Principal Scientist Dr. C. Mohan, explained about different tuber crop varieties. Dr. Harish E R delivered class on pest and disease control. Dr. M. S. Sajeev conducted the class about value added products and entrepreneurial possibilities. Then there was Farmer-Scientist interactive session. As part of the programme, samples of planting material of best varieties, organic formulations like Manna, Menma, Shreya and Micronol, a mixture of micronutrients, were distributed. Karimannur Agriculture Officer Smt. Queen Jacob delivered vote of thanks.
