National Institute of Technology Puducherry has celebrated the 78th Independence Day on 15.08.2024. Dr. Makarand Madhao Ghangrekar, Director, National Institute of Technology Puducherry hoisted the national flag and addressed, as we stand here today, it is important to remember and honour the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Veer Savarkar, V. V. S. Aiyar, Subramanya Bharathi, V.O. Chidambaram Pillai and many others who dedicated their lives to the cause of our nation’s independence. Their vision and perseverance have gifted us the freedom we cherish and enjoy today.

Our Constitution has earned us the title of the largest secular, democratic country in the world. From the Green Revolution, to medical advancements, social welfare measures for gender equality and the underprivileged, quality education for all as well as the National Education Policy, India has progressed by leaps and bounds. In the domain of space and technology, we became the first country to reach Mars in our first attempt through Mangalyaan and also successfully landed Chandrayaan 3 on the moon last year.

We have seen a large-scale indigenous manufacturing drive under the Make in India programme to become Atma-Nirbhar or self-reliant. In the ongoing Olympic Games at Paris, we have also won six medals, five bronze, one silver in the domains such as shooting, hockey and athletics. With the nation growing as a power internationally as well as among our neighbours, we are very soon poised to become a developed nation in the coming decades.

In conclusion, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the members of our institute for their dedication and hard work. Let us continue to strive for excellence and make our institute a beacon of knowledge and innovation.

There will not be a bigger day to commit to national development so let us do so with new inspirations, new consciousness, new resolutions, as the country opens up to immense possibilities and opportunities.

A parade by the students and security personnel, and the cultural program by the students took place on this occasion. Registrar Dr. S. Sundaravarathan, Faculty, staff and students of the institute have participated in the event and paid their respects to the freedom fighters. The program was started and ended with national anthem.
