Central Silk Board constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1948 to develop the sericulture industry. It was under the able leadership of the Late Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the first Minister of Commerce and Industry of free India, and also the ex-officio first Chairman of the Central Silk Board that the resolution for the development of the Indian silk industry was passed in Parliament.

India is bestowed with all the five types of silk production (Mulberry, Eri, Tropical & Temperate Tasar and Muga) across different agro-climatic zones of 26 states. In collaboration with DoSs, Universities, Govt. and Private research institutes and NGOs, Central Silk Board is conducting research and implementing Schemes to benefit the seri-dependents.

Central Silk Board, Bengaluru in association with Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU) and Kalyan Foundation is launching an ericulture promotional project at SDAU, Palanpur, Gujarat on 10.08.2024. Ministry of Textiles (MoT) & Ministry of State for Textiles (MOST), Ministry of State for Agriculture (MOSA), MLAs in the region, and Private partners and officials of Central Silk Board, Kalyan Foundation and SDAU besides castor growing farmers and beneficiaries will attend the programme.

The aim of the programme is to serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, awareness building about the utilization of resources available, encourage the farmers to practice sericulture and fostering a spirit of innovation within the sericulture community furthering the growth and development of the silk industry.

From the decades, ericulture is practiced mainly in Northeastern States. To utilize its vast potentialities, there is a need to expand the ericulture in non-traditional States like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Bihar & Utttar Pradesh where, the availability of host plants are abundant. Gujarat being the largest castor producing State in India (7.24 lakh ha) assuring profitable returns to the farmers, offers unique opportunities. A further value can be added by utilizing the unutilized castor leaves by practicing ericulture which benefits farmers as well as contributes to the growth & development of silk industry.

Join us at the event. Your presence and support would be greatly appreciated.
