CELEBRATION OF THE 10TH NATIONAL HANDLOOM DAY AT NIFT GANDHINAGAR

Gandhinagar, 7th August 2024 – National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Gandhinagar is proud to announce the celebration of the 10th National Handloom Day on 7th August 2024 at NIFT Campus, Gandhinagar.

This momentous occasion will be graced by the esteemed presence of Shri Bhupendrabhai Rajnikant Patel, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Balvantsinh Chandansinh Rajput, Hon’ble Minister of Industries, Micro, Small and Medium Industries, Cottage, Khadi and Rural Industries, Civil Aviation, Labour and Employment Dept. Government of Gujarat, as the Guest of Honour.

The event will showcase the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the Indian handloom industry, paying honor to the dedication and skill of our artisans.

Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Director said that NIFT Gandhinagar has planned a series of activities to mark this special day:

  • Handloom Exhibition: An exquisite display of handloom crafts from across India and Gujarat, highlighting the diversity and richness of our textile traditions.
  • Fashion Walk: Students will present a fashion walk on the National Handloom Day theme, showcasing their creativity and talent in the Foyer.
  • National Handloom Day Pledge: A pledge ceremony to reaffirm our commitment to preserving and promoting the handloom industry
  • Inauguration of Faculty Area: The newly designed Faculty Area will be inaugurated, enhancing the academic environment for both faculty and students.

     

The celebration aims to honor the invaluable contributions of our weavers and artisans, whose dedication and skill have preserved the rich tradition of handloom weaving. By highlighting the intricate craftsmanship involved, we seek to foster greater appreciation and support for this timeless art form. The event also serves as a platform to emphasize the economic significance of the handloom sector, which provides livelihoods to millions and sustains rural economies. Additionally, it underscores the cultural heritage embodied in handloom textiles, showcasing their role in India's history and identity. Through these efforts, we hope to inspire renewed interest and investment in the handloom industry, ensuring its continued growth and sustainability.
