The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing Rashtriya Gokul Mission with the aim of development and conservation of indigenous bovine breeds, genetic upgradation of bovine population and enhancing milk production and productivity of bovines.

The following steps have been taken under Rashtriya Gokul Mission to increase milk production in the country:

1. Implementation of Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme to extend Artificial insemination coverage in the districts with less than 50% coverage
2. Accelerated breed improvement programme using bovine In-Vitro Fertilization technology (IVF) for faster genetic upgradation of bovines
3. Accelerated breed Improvement programme using sex sorted semen for production female calves with more than 90% accuracy
4. Progeny Testing and Pedigree Selection Programme for production of high genetic merit bulls
5. Delivery of quality artificial insemination services at farmers doorstep through Multi Purpose Artificial Insemination Technicians in Rural India (MAITRIs)
6.  Establishment of breed multiplication farm for development of entrepreneurship and to make available disease free heifers.

 

Department is supporting and augmenting livestock health care through the implementation of Livestock Health & Disease Control Programme (LHDCP) which is a Central Sector Scheme, in all States/UTs, with the aim of reducing risk to animal health by prophylactic vaccination against diseases of animals, capacity building of Veterinary services, disease surveillance and strengthening Veterinary infrastructure. The major activities supported are vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Brucellosis, Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) and Classical Swine Fever (CSF) under 100% central assistance, Assistance to States for Control of Animal Disease (ASCAD) for control of state prioritized economically important exotic, emergent and zoonotic animal diseases with funding pattern of 60:40 between Central and State; 90:10 for hilly and North East States and 100% for UTs. Additionally, under the component of Establishment and Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries (ESVHD-MVU), 100% financial assistance is provided towards procurement & customization of Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) with recurring operational expenditure in the ratio of 90:10 for North Eastern & Himalayan States; 60% for other States, and 100% for UTs for delivery of veterinary healthcare services through Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) through a Toll-Free Number (1962) at farmers’ doorsteps which include disease diagnosis, treatment, vaccination, minor surgical interventions, audio-visual aids and extension services.

Following steps are taken under National Livestock Mission aim to enhance the feed and fodder supply chain, thereby contributing to the Livestock Nutrition:

1. 100% incentivization is provided for production of all categories of fodder seeds, thereby ensuring the availability of high yielding fodder varieties.
2. Under the component ‘Entrepreneurship Development Programme’ (EDP), financial assistance in the form of 50% capital subsidy is provided to eligible entities to establish infrastructure for preparing Total Mixed Ration (TMR), Fodder blocks, Silage and Hay.
3. Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) supports large scale production of Animal feeds, Total Mixed Ration, Silage, Bypass protein, Mineral Mixture, feed supplements and feed premixes in the country.
