Wrestler Ayushka Gadekar from Maharashtra, won a Gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championship in the U-15 category (58KG) which is being held in Thailand from 16th to 24th July 2024. Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, National Center of Excellence (NCOE), Mumbai Wrestlers Ayushka Gadekar from Washim, Maharashtra, Pragati Gaikwad (59KG, U-20), from Pune and Amit Gope (82KG, U-20) from Ranchi, Jharkhand were selected to represent India in the Asian Wrestling Championship.

 

Chief Wrestling Coach at SAI NCOE Mumbai, Raj Singh, commended all participants and highlighted their ongoing role as representatives of India in international wrestling. He also acknowledged the Sports Science and Administration Staff for their invaluable support.

Despite being her debut international tournament, Ayushka triumphed in the final against Arina Kuanyshova from Kazakhstan with a score of 6-2. Her success is a testament to her hard work and determination, setting her sights on winning a medal at the 2028 Olympics.

Assistant Wrestling Coach at SAI NCOE Mumbai, Shilpi Sheoran, lauded Ayushka's remarkable achievement and expressed confidence in her potential to win gold at future Olympic Games. She extended thanks to Regional Director, Pandurang Chate, NCOE Mumbai Team, coaches, and supporting staff for their contributions.

Pragati Gaikwad and Amit Gope also participated in the championship. Pragati lost in the repechage round to Erdenebolor Lkhagvasuren from Mongolia (10-5), while Amit lost in the first round against Son M from Korea (1-1).

SAI NCOE Mumbai has made a remarkable achievement this year with four of its athletes including Samarth Mhakave - Kolhapur, Maharashtra (U-17 Asian Championship) representing India at the International Stage this year.
