Indonesia and NFDC Film Festival started off from today at the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) in Mumbai. This six-day fiesta for cinema lovers is scheduled to be held till July 6, 2024, and marks the third edition of the NFDC Film Festival. This event also celebrates the cultural exchange between Indonesia and India through the medium of cinema.

In the Opening Ceremony today, chief guest Akshat Ajay Sharma was present in the traditional lamp lighting ceremony and ceremonial unveiling of the festival banner. Akshat Ajay Sharma is known for his work in "Major" (2022), "Radhe Shyam" (2022), "AK vs AK" (2020), and as the director of the crime-drama "Haddi" featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. 

This was followed with the screening of Indonesian film "Partikelir," setting the tone for the exciting days ahead.

Mr. Eddy Wardoyo, Consul General of Indonesia, who was also present, expressed his delight at showcasing Indonesian films in Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Eddy Wardoyo highlighted the rich storytelling traditions and unique cultural narratives in Indonesian films that resonate deeply with Indian audiences due to shared themes of family and tradition. He suggested that strategic collaborations between NFDC and Indonesian filmmakers could amplify these cultural connections. Mr. Wardoyo also noted the importance of this cultural exchange initiative, marking a significant first step in bridging the cinematic worlds of Indonesia and India. He acknowledged the challenges Indonesian filmmakers face in gaining global recognition and expressed optimism that partnerships with organizations like NFDC could help overcome these obstacles by providing necessary platforms and support for broader international outreach. Shri D. Ramakrishnan, GM, NFDC, added that such collaborations could lead to a mutual enrichment of both film industries and create new opportunities for cultural exchange and artistic innovation. Ms. Jayita Ghosh, Manager, NFDC- NMIC, moderated the talks on cultural exchange. 

Film Schedule:

The festival features an exciting mix of Indonesian and Indian films. The schedule is as follows:

• 1st July: Partikelir (Indonesian Film)
• 2nd July: Kantara
• 3rd July: Sehidup Semati (Indonesian Film)
• 4th July: Major 
• 5th July: Cek Toko Sebelah (Indonesian Film)
• 6th July: RRR

Attendees also enjoyed a variety of Indonesian delicacies served on the occasion, like Ongol-ongol: (A sweet snack made from palm sago flour, water, palm sugar, pandan leaves, coconut, and salt), Lemper Ayam (Non-Veg): (Sticky rice with minced chicken wrapped in banana leaves) and Pastel: (A slightly sweet pastry).
